Their Support Gives Amputees Hope

Losing a limb is tragic, but sharing the experience with someone can offer hope. Knowing this, Kim Bartman, R.N., and Karen Marzen Groller, R.N., re-established the Amputee Support Group and have reached out to more than 22 amputees and their families.

Each month, Bartman and Groller answer medical, physical or technical questions from people who have lost limbs. They also arrange guest speakers and provide a place for amputees to talk, listen and learn.  The nurses also are establishing a program to help put new patients at ease--group members will visit them prior to or immediately following surgery to provide support.  Bartman and Groller actively listen and facilitate the peer counseling that so many amputees need and deserve.
